WHICH SECTION OF ECONOMICS IS BEST FOR ME? |
|
ECONOMICS - So many choices . .
On-Line…TV…ITV…On-campus…Web-enhanced…Off-campus… Once a Week…Twice a Week… 2 weeks…3 weeks…5 weeks…10 weeks…15 weeks This section explains the many formats in which we teach economics. On-campus – Traditional classes taught on the Lincroft campus with approximately 30 students per class. We use lecture, discussion and in-class problem solving. Many of our rooms are equipped with a computer, which is utilized by the instructor to bring real-world economics to the classroom. Off-campus – Economics classes are offered regularly at Bayshore, Long Branch, Asbury Park, Freehold (Western Monmouth) and the Communiversity. Many of these sections are offered as receiving sites of an Interactive Television (ITV) course (see explanation below). Web-enhanced – Most of our classes require assignments to be completed using the internet for research. You will need to have access to a computer at home, or use one of the many computers available to students on campus. Meet once or twice a week – Most of our sections in the 15 week semesters meet once a week for three hours. But if you prefer meeting more frequently for a shorter period of time, we offer several "split" sections that meet twice a week for one and a half hours each time. 2, 3, 5, 6, 10 or 15 weeks - We offer classes in all terms and in a variety of formats. Winterim classes meet every day during the first two weeks of January. In the Summer terms you’ll find classes that meet for 3, 5, 6, or 10 weeks. Fall and Spring are when we offer the traditional 15-week class. ITV Interactive Television – The professor meets with a class at one site in a special room set up with television cameras. Her class is broadcast to several other sites in Monmouth County. If you are at a receiving site, you sit in the classroom and watch the professor on a television monitor. A camera is also on you. The professor can see you and talk to you. And you can talk to her and the rest of your classmates who are at another location. This format allows us to offer more classes at Freehold (Western Monmouth), Bayshore, Long Branch, Asbury Park, and the Communiversity. TV Television – Your instruction is received through videos that are aired on cable television channels or as streamed video via the internet, along with textbook, workbook, worksheets, and CD-Rom. You come to the Lincroft campus for an orientation and for three unit review sessions. You take three unit exams in the Testing Center on the Lincroft campus. To be successful in this course, you must be disciplined to do much of the work "on your own" without immediate facilitation from your instructor. DE Distance Education – (Also known as an on-line course) –The course is set up on a web site. All of your instructions, testing and communications with your instructor and other classmates is done via this web site. Many of your assignments are based on internet research. To be successful in this course, you must be disciplined to do much of the work "on your own" without immediate facilitation from your instructor. However, your instructor is in constant contact with you via the web site. To check availability of classes, go to Webadvisor |
