The Brookdale Community College Human Services Program is an option provided through the Psychology Department. Human Services is a social movement. Human Services Generalist is a generic term for people who hold A VARIETY OF PROFESSIONAL AND PARAPROFESSIONAL JOBS in diverse settings such as group homes, halfway houses, correctional facilities, community mental health centers, and youth service agencies. Depending on the employment setting, titles and job descriptions vary. Human services workers generally work under the direction of professionals from a wide variety of fields, such as psychology, rehabilitation, or social work. Human services workers provide direct and indirect client services. They assess clients' needs, establish their eligibility for benefits and services, and help clients obtain them. Human services workers also monitor and keep case records on clients and report progress to supervisors. The primary purpose of the human service movement is to assist individuals and communities to function and thrive amid the many demands of contemporary life. A strong desire to help others is important for a human services worker. Patience, understanding, caring, and emotional well-being are vital to their work. Other important personal traits include communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to manage time efficiently and effectively. |
