PERIODICALS, INDEXES & DATABASES
The Bankier Library subscribes to two print journals that are housed in the periodicals collection on the 2nd floor:
The Bankier Library subscribes to a number of electronic databases that will bring you to journal articles for diagnostic medical sonography. These are located under the "Databases / Articles by Topic " heading on the library home page. Click on that heading & then choose the "Health Sciences" tab to focus your search by keyword or subject heading.
These databases include citations to articles, abstracts of articles, and, in many cases, the complete full-text or full-image magazine and journal articles.
If you are a seasoned user of our resources, you may simply want to jump to the health sciences databases:
Begin to explore health sciences databases for professional, peer-reviewed, and scholarly articles. A good starting place is the Nursing and Allied Health Collection: Comprehensive. The link below will introduce you to an advanced search with guided style tutorial for EBSCOhost databases that include this one.
According to EBSCOhost, the database provider, "CINAHL Plus with Full Text is the world's most comprehensive nursing & allied health research database, providing full text for more than 750 journals indexed in CINAHL. Of those, 426 are not found with full text in any version of Academic Search™, Health Source® or Nursing & Allied Health Collection™. The database also provides full text for more than 220 books/monographs and 135 Evidence-Based Care Sheets. With full text coverage dating back to 1937." (as of 10 October 2009)
Two other databases that include a wealth of information come to us from the government. These are MEDLINEPlus and PubMed Central. As our info tab on the databases page states, "MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations." And the PubMed site states that this database is "the U.S. National Library of Medicine's digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature, providing free access to the full text of articles." (as of 23 October 2009)

An alternate way to find and to use a specific online journal is to choose the heading "Journals by Title: Online," under the "Find" heading on the library home page. Next, go to "Browse Online Journals by Subject," and choose "Health and Biological Sciences." Click the "Search" button. In the results list, under the "Medicine" heading, will be found the section for "Radiology, MRI, Ultrasonography & Medical Physics." There are more than 50 journal titles in this section.
Pertinent titles, excluding those listed above, include:
If the full text of an article you are seeking is not available in the Bankier Library or from our online databases, you may request the article through the Interlibrary Loan process. Click here to go to that form, available from the Bankier Library website.
