Help with the Research
Process...
Below are some of the basic
tools you will need to get started on your research. All of these can be accessed
from the Bankier Library homepage
and website.
- Online
Catalog -- Your
gateway to Bankier Library's collection of books, periodicals, journals and
multimedia. Start your searching here!
- Online
Databases -- Your gateway to Bankier Library's electronic resources. The
place to find articles for your assignments!
- Access
Science -- The Online Version of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science
and Technology. When starting on a new research topic or just looking for
some introductory information check out this continually updated resource!
- Evaluating
Your Web-based Sources -- Critical to the research process. Make sure
the information you are using is authoritative and proper! If after evaluating
the Accuracy, Authority, Objectivity, Currency,
and Coverage you feel safe quoting the information from the site in
a college research paper, then by all means go ahead and use the site!
- Citing
Your Sources -- How
to give credit where credit is due and avoid pesky plagiarism charges! (Accordingly,
I must thank my fellow librarian Amy Clark for her assistance with this link.)
This is often the last
task before handing in your paper, but you still need to do it!
- Also be
sure to look for our NoodleTools
workshops to help you with citing your sources. It should take some of
the hurt out of doing your bibliographies! Contact Amy
or me for more info.
We are always available
to help you with your research. If you are having trouble using the online catalog
or databases stop by the Help Desk and we'll be happy to assist you. We are
also available for research consultations by appointment.
