The following page will seek to help you navigate your way through the world of engineering and technology. I have tried to provide useful and authoritative resources to aid in your studies. Some Basic Guides and Tutorials for Automotive Technology

Autoshop 101

Kevin Sullivan, a Senior Instructor at Skyline College in California has put together an Automotive Training and Resource Site for Automotive Electronics. It contains free online tutorials, ASE Practice Tests and Technical Articles

AllData Online

This is a comprehensive resource for automotive diagnostic and repair information. Look up Technical Service Bulletins and Recall Information that are updated daily. Also view maintenance tables and even wiring diagrams for most vehicles.

Automotive Systems

From the free-ed.net group comes a series of modules about the Internal Combustion Engine, Gasoline Fuel Systems, Diesel Fuel Systems, and Cooling and Lubricating Systems. They describe the different parts of the automotive system and how they operate together to make the system run.

Auto World Automotive Glossary

An online glossary of automotive terms indexed alphabetically. Each term includes a general description of the technology, an explanation of how it works, and notes how this particular item, system, etc. benefits the driver of the automobile.


Automotive Technology Industry Associations

SAE

Society of Automotive Engineers

Professional organization that work on engineering standards as well as publishing 100s of technical papers and books a year. Promote vehicle safety and maintenance and energy resource conservation for the general public. Sponsor of numerous professional development opportunities.

ASE

National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence

Website of the non-profit organization. Their mission is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the testing and certification of repair and service professionals. Has information on certification, tests, and test preparation.

ASA Shop

Automotive Service Association

Website of the leading organization for owners and managers of automotive service businesses. Site contains information about education and training, news, and events of interest to the field. Members have access to the latest technical and regulatory information.

IATN

International Automotive Technician's Network

Website of an online community of automotive professionals. Members have access to technical information about repairs, diagnostics and service issues as well as discussions with fellow professionals. Non-members can use the Repair Shop Finder tool.

NATEF

National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation

This organization evaluates technician training programs against standards developed by the automotive industry and recommends qualifying programs for certification (accreditation) by ASE, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

NISO

National Information Standards Association

Identifies, develops, maintains, and publishes technical standards to manage information. Sponsors programs on standards issues and exploratory workshops on emerging topics.

Kelleys Blue Book

Trusted resource for pricing and determining the value of used and new cars. Nearly 1 of 3 people who are in the market for a car visit this site!

How Stuff Works: Autos

Started by a Professor Brain (no joke!),this site is a leading source of credible, unbiased, and easy-to-understand explanations of how the world actually works. The Auto Channel gives all sorts of information about what goes on "Under the Hood", safety features, options and accessories, as well as different car models and even alternative fuel sources.

Old Iron Online

The Old Car Manual Project

This is basically a library of information on older cars. Volunteers have scanned in technical information, brochures, manuals and other materials related to old cars. Also has links to print and radio ads and lots of great old pictures!

The Auto Channel

Contains news, new car buying guide, car reviews, cost estimates for new and used cars, classified ads, and user forums.Currently has 865,769 pages of searchable information.

Fuel Economy.gov

Ever want to know about those Miles Per Gallon ratings they talk about in car ads and at the dealership? Visit this site for info. Also contains material on gas prices, tips for better gas mileage, hybrids and energy efficient technologies.


Helpful Auto Tech Sites

Auto Guide

(Bills itself as the web's largest automotive directory. Find anything from car parts to car clubs to software to legal information. Browseable by category.)

DMOZ: Automotive Business

(Collected by the Open Directory Project: a comprehensive human-edited web directory project. 1000s of sites on Automotive topics. Links to directories on Autos as a form of recreation and for auto shopping.)

Yahoo! Automotive

(Content compiled and organized by the original masters of Web Directories. 1000s of sites and counting!)

Intute

(Based at higher education sites in the United Kingdom, this provides free access to high quality Internet resources. Each has been evaluated and categorized by subject specialists. Use search terms such as "Automotive", "Auto", "Autos", and "Cars" to get results.)

NHTSA

(Sponsored by the Federal Government, this is the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Contains sections on Traffic Safety, Vehicles and Equipment, Research, and Laws and Regulations. Includes info on recalls and service bulletins as well.)

WWW Virtual Library: Autos

(Dating to 1991, has all sorts of sites related to the automotive field compiled by experts. Part of the World Wide Web Virtual Library started by Tim Berners-Lee -- the creator of HTML and the Web. Continually updated.)

Infomine Scholarly Internet Resource Collections

(A Virtual Library of Internet Resources for Students, Faculty, and Researchers. Collected and managed by Librarians. Searchable as both a library catalog and a web search engine. Use search terms such as "Automotive", "Auto", "Autos", and "Cars" to get results.)

Technology Focused on Automobiles at LII.org
