Research Guide for Engineering and Technology

(including Engineering, Engineering Technology and Computer Aided Drafting and Design)

The following page will seek to help you navigate your way through the world of engineering and technology. I have tried to provide useful and authoritative resources to aid in your studies. The page will be divided into the following sections: The Basics, Engineering and Engineering Related Associations, Fun with Engineering and Helpful Engineering and Technology Sites.

I hope you find these useful and as always if you have any comments or questions feel free to contact me at schudnick@brookdalecc.edu

The Basics:

The Building Blocks of Engineering

ENGApplets(Java Applets for Engineering Education)

Hosted at Virginia Tech and funded by the National Science Foundation, these Java Applets introduce some basic engineering concepts.

(Requires JAVA-enabled browser)

Fundamentals of Engineering Supplied-Reference

From the 8th Edition, this contains some basic reference formulas and tables that engineers need to use on certification exams. Sponsored by the National Council of Engineers for Engineering and Surveying and published by McGraw-Hill.

CAD Tutor

A series of tutorials focused on AutoCAD and other areas of Computer Aided Design. Created and managed by David Watson over in the U.K.

Statics and Statics and Strength of Materials

Notes and materials from two-web based courses on the above topics. From Prof. Robert J. Foley at the University of Wisconsin- Stout

Helpful Engineering and Technology Sites

WWW Virtual Library: Electrical and Electronics Engineering

(Dating to 1999, about 500 sites compiled by experts in their respective fields. Part of the World Wide Web Vitual Library started by Tim Berners-Lee -- the creator of HTML and the Web.)

Engineering at LII.org

(From the Librarian's Index to the Internet, content is reviewed and evaluated by professional librarians. Wide range of materials for you to choose from.) Be sure to click *Engineering* once on the Science page.

BUBL for Technology/Applied Sciences

(Based in Glasgow, Scotland, links to info on all areas of Technology and the Applied Sciences based upon the Dewey Decimal Classification System. Brings a British and European view to the field.)

Intute

(Based at higher education sites in the United Kingdom, this provides free access to high quality Internet resources. Each has been evaluated and categorized by subject specialists.)

Applied Science and Technologies at Science.gov

(Hosted by the Federal Government, this allows searching across 30 databases and over 1,700 science websites. Also try working with the narrower topics for search results.)

Yahoo! Engineering

(Content compiled and organized by the original masters of Web Directories. 3775 sites and counting! I highly recommend working through the sub-categories.)

Infomine Scholarly Internet Resource Collections: Physical Sciences, Engineering, Computing & Math

(A Virtual Library of Internet Resources for Students, Faculty, and Researchers. Collected and managed by Librarians. Searchable like both a library catalog and a web search engine.)
