The following page will seek to help you navigate your way through the world of physics. I have tried to provide useful and authoritative resources to aid in your studies. The page will be divided into the following sections: The Basics, Help With Homework, Fun With Physics and Astronomy, and Helpful Research Sites.
I hope you find these useful and as always if you have any comments or questions feel free to contact me at schudnick@brookdalecc.edu

Fundamental Physical Constants -- This is from MIT so while it may not be flashy, it will give you access to 140 Constants needed for your homework! |
| Elemental Data Index -- This is an interactive Periodical Table Chart that enables you to click on a particular element and find information like atomic weight, ionization energy, ground-state level, and ground-state configuration. It also links to various databases with lots of research information. | |
| NIST Reference on Constants, Units, and Uncertainty -- A more interactive and colorful approach to contstants than the MIT listing above, this site is managed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. | |
|
Mineralogy Database -- For those of us who don't get their essential vitamins and minerals from breakfast cereal, here is everything you would ever want to know about 4,442 individual species of minerals. |
|
| Sixty Symbols -- From the University of Nottingham, legendary home of Robin Hood, comes this site that explores some of the more confusing symbols of Physics and Astronomy via video. The project is a series of chats with men and women in the field talking about their subject. |
| The Interactive Textbook -- From the University of Pennsylvania, this is web-based text intended for a college-level course in introductory physics. It includes lecture materials, diagrams, homework problems, etc. Be sure to scroll down to the Table of Contents to get to the meat of the site. | ![]() |
Learn Physics Today -- This is an online physics tutorial developed by some college educators in Peru. It contains lessons, diagrams, even web-based problem sets to help you grasp the various physics concepts and ensure you practice what you are learning. |
| College Physics for Students of Biology and Chemistry -- This is a no-frills hypertextbook for first year undergraudate physics students. It allows you access to entries via a Table of Contents, a list of Symbols and Abbreviations, a Biophysical Chronology and an Alphabetical Index. | comPadre -- This is a site containing resources for both Physics and Astronomy education. The Nucleus is especially useful to undergrads but be sure to check out all that is available on the site. Don't be afraid to register, it's just a username and password thing! | |
| Eric Weisstein's World of Physics -- This is a virtual encyclopedia of physics information. Articles are well-indexed -- alphabetically and by subject -- and hyperlinks lead you to relevant topics throughout the site. | Eric Weisstein's World of Astronomy,-- This is a virtual encyclopedia of astronomy information. Articles are well-indexed -- alphabetically and by subject -- and hyperlinks lead you to relevant topics throughout the site. |
| Lunar and Planetary Science -- Looking for cool images of our solar system's planets and other celestial bodies? Maintained by NASA, this site is the image archive for planetary and lunar data from space missions. Easy to search, easy to use. | National
Snow and Ice Data Center -- This site archives and distributes snow
and ice data. It also has information on snow cover, avalanches, glaciers,
ice sheets, freshwater ice, sea ice, ground ice, permafrost, atmospheric
ice, paleoglaciology, and ice cores. |
Sir Isaac Newton |
| The Particle Adventure -- a light-hearted yet very informative interactive tour of quarks, neutrinos, anti-matter, extra dimensions and many other things I do not understand. |
NOVA: The Elegant Universe -- Companion website to the PBS program on String Theory. The site investigates the hot concept of string theory and how it may explain the workings of our universe. |
|
| Physics2000 -- An attempt by researchers at the University of Colorado to teach Physics in a visual way using lots of interactive demos, visuals, and experiments. Also has a great Einstein section. |
NOVA: Runaway Universe -- Companion website to the PBS program. Includes information on the history of the universe, the birth of a supernova, and has a virtual tour of our universe. |
|
| CPEP -- The Contemporary Physics Education Project is a busy, busy site! You need to click a bit to hit the useful information such as charts, posters, glossaries and the like. | NOVA: Newton's Dark Secrets -- Companion website to the recent PBS program on Sir Isaac. Along with exploring his interest in alchemy, the site has biographical information and a discussion of his famous work the Principia among other materials. | |
| The

NOVA: Einstein's Big Idea -- Companion websites to two PBS programs on Einstein. The newer program tackles E=mc2 as a concept while the older one focuses more on his life and legacy. The website has articles, commentary, interactive portions and some audio files. |
