A native of Goose Creek, Texas, Keith Heimann began his musical training at the piano at the age of 6. His Grandmother was a strong believer in arts education, and regularly took Keith to professional performances of the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the Alley Theater. Also, as a student in the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District, Keith received further education on the French Horn and cello.
Keith began private voice training at the urging of a piano instructor at Rice University. The New York City Opera mezzo soprano, Frances Bible, became Keith's mentor for the next few years. It was Ms. Bible who encouraged Keith to audition for the major conservatories in New York: The Juilliard School, The Manhattan School and The Mannes School. Keith was accepted by all three and offered scholarships to each. As an alumna herself, Frances Bible encouraged Keith to accept the offer from Juilliard. In five years at Juilliard Keith earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree. Each year, was awarded a full tuition scholarship based upon a yearly competition offered by the American Opera Center.
The American Opera Center featured Keith in leading bass-baritone roles presented at Lincoln Center, including Mozart's Don Giovanni, Shastakovitch's Lady Mcbeth from Mtsensk and Gian Carlo Menotti's Amelia Goes To The Ball, directed by the composer.
Upon graduation from Juilliard, Keith began his professional career, singing major bass and bass-baritone roles with The Santa Fe Opera, The Los Angeles Opera, The Houston Grand Opera, The New York Grand Opera and The Vienna Kammeroper. His operatic repertory spans from Bach to Barber and his performances garnered critical acclaim. Keith was singled out by the Vienna Presse for his performances in Mozart's Abduction From The Seraglio and The Marriage Of Figaro. Keith was praised for "....bass singing with authoritative ease...." following his Don Pasquale performances at the Santa Fe Opera.
As a recitalist with Columbia Artist's Community Concert Series, Keith extensively toured the United States and Canada in a recital repertory which spans from Schubert to Richard Rodgers. The renowned pianist Jon Spong has often been Keith's collaborator in recital.
Under the baton of Sir John Pritchard, Leonard Bernstein, Dennis Russell Davies and John Crosby, Keith was the featured soloists in concert performances of the Mozart Requiem, Mozart's Coronation Mass, Beethoven's Christ On The Mount Of Olives and other oratorio works from the standard repertory.
On Broadway and in National Tours, Keith has appeared in The Phantom Of The Opera as well as Kurt Weill's The Lady In The Dark. Regional credits include Peron in Evita, Nicky in Funny Girl and the Captain in The Sound Of Music.
Keith joined the distinguished music faculty of Brookdale Community College in the fall of 2001, teaching voice, ear training, music appreciation and musical theater.
