How to Use NoodleBib6 (automated Works Cited generator)
NoodleBib is a Web application that allows you to create and edit MLA Works Cited Lists or APA Reference Lists. NoodleBib will help you understand what information is important to cite and how to cite it correctly. NoodleBib will take care of all punctuation and will produce a polished source list that is correctly formatted and ready to print. It is easy to use; just follow these instructions.
Note: You will need a Brookdale student ID to access NoodleBib from home. If you do not have one, you will need to use a computer in the Brookdale Library or at one of the Brookdale extension sites to access NoodleBib.
Finding NoodleTools
- Go to the Library's home page: www.brookdalecc.edu/library
- Look toward the middle of the page, next to "Online Databases" - under Articles, Databases, and Resources
- Click the NoodleTools link.
- If you are working from home, you will be prompted for your name and Brookdale student ID. The ID is the long number under the bar code on the back of your student ID card.
- If this is your first time using NoodleTools, you will need to create an account. If you already have an account, skip this step.
Create An Account (first visit only)
click the Create New Folder link.
You will be asked to create a Personal ID and password. These can be anything you choose. (I recommend using the same user name and password that you use to access our WebCT class, just to keep things simple.)
Setting Up a New Works Cited List
- Click the Start New List button on the right of the screen.
- Select a list style. For our class, select MLA Advanced.
- Give your list a name. You can call it "ENGL 122 Paper 1" or anything else you want.
- Click Start Adding Citations
Creating Individual Source Citations
- Select the source type of your first source from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.
- Click the Go button next to the drop-down box.
- You will be guided through a series of questions that will ask you to identify the type of source you are citing.
- These questions will lead to a blank form where you will enter the specific information about your source. Read the directions carefully.
- click the Generate Citation button at the bottom after you have entered all your source information.
- Your first entry will be displayed, correctly formatted. Use the button to the left of the entry to edit it if you need to.
- Repeat these steps for each of your sources.
Inserting the List of Works Cited into Your Paper
or Printing or Saving the List
- click Open in Word in the "Options" menu on the left of the screen.
(Note: this will work in any word processor, not just Microsoft Word.)
- Click the Save it as an RTF Document link
- On the next string, click where it says "Click Here"
- A new window will appear. Click Open to open the document in your word processor.
- With the document open in your word processor, you can copy and paste it into your paper, or save it to your disk, print it, etc.
