Welcome to the Monmouth Museum, a Museum of Ideas, offering changing exhibitions and educational programs on art, science, nature and cultural history for visitors of all ages. The Monmouth Museum serves as a center for education and culture and is one of the largest private Museums in New Jersey.
Main Gallery & Nilson Gallery
Changing exhibitions featured in the Museum’s Main Gallery and the newly created Nilson Gallery present a wide variety of art in all media. Historical and scientific subject areas are also explored on a regular basis. Organizations such as the Monmouth County Arts Council, the New Jersey Watercolor Society, the Sculptors Association of New Jersey, and local arts organizations present group shows at the Museum. Guest curators are invited to assemble works in their special fields from artists, private collectors, and museums and corporations throughout the Northeast.
New Jersey Emerging Artists Series
The Monmouth Museum provides a unique and exciting opportunity for artists to showcase their work with its New Jersey Emerging Artists Series. The artists selected for this Series represent the diversity of talent in the State and demonstrate their creativity in a wide variety of media. Gallery talks scheduled during the exhibitions offer artists the opportunity to share insights on their work. For more information on submission guidelines click here.
Programs for the Entire Family
Each of the programs and exhibitions at the Museum is designed with the goal of increasing curiosity and learning. For children who visit with their families and schools, the Museum has developed strategies to make learning fun by employing hands-on, participatory activities which engage and focus young visitors.
Children 6 years old and under will have a magical undersea learning experience in our popular Dorothy V. Morehouse WonderWing. The WonderWing is an educational space offering a permanent exhibition on the sea and the creatures that make it their home. Children can explore a pirate ship, perform in a Tiki theater, climb a tree house and inside a lighthouse, slide through a whale, play in a kelp forest and listen to a real waterfall. The WonderWing is designed for early childhood education with elements that are attractive and age appropriate, and draw young visitors to experiment, imagine, explore and discover. Group tours with professional guides are available.
The Becker Chidren's Wing
The Becker Children's Wing is designed as a comfortable hands-on learning environment for children 7 -12 years old. Exhibitions are based on school curriculum subjects using science and cultural history in stimulating and thought-provoking ways. Past exhibition topics have included Western Migration, Cultures, Native Americans, Egypt, Dinosaurs, the Human Body, Energy, and Space Exploration. Exhibitions in the Becker Children's Wing are generally of a two-year duration and group tours with professional guides are available.
