OCEAN ADVENTURE PARTICIPANT INFORMATION
SUMMER 2009

The four (4) one-week camps will start July 20 and run through August 14, 2009.

LUNCH - Campers must bring their own lunch/drinks/snacks. No refrigerator is available for lunch storage.

MONEY Please do not send large sums of money with your child. ($2.00-3.50 maximum) We usually make one ice cream shop visit on the last or second-to-last day of camp. We do have sodas available daily for $1.50 (Optional).

PICK-UP/DROP OFF - Only at the Lincroft Campus, Parking Lot 6.

BEHAVIOR - No fighting, horseplay or bad language is tolerated. Campers must obey park rules, instructor, and bus driver.

FOOTWEAR - Sneakers must be worn in the water. Old sneakers that can get wet (and will get wet almost daily) should be satisfactory. Sandals are for the beachwalks only and should be brought daily too..

MEDICATION - Remind us of medications, but please do not request the staff to be responsible for administering it.

FIRST AID - Administration is by the U.S.N.P.S. First-Aiders at the beach. Any injuries are handled by Highlands First Aid Squad, Highlands, New Jersey.

BEES/ALLERGIES - Remind us of any serious allergies. Bright colored clothing and perfume may attract bees. We will show the campers poison ivy and do not normally take them where it is encountered. Insects are rarely a problem.

TICKS - No deer ticks have been reported at Sandy Hook. Dog ticks are unusual at any sites we go to. Nevertheless, parents should check children when they arrive home.

SUNSCREEN - Apply sunscreen at home. Campers can also bring sunscreen with them. No sprays.

BUGS/BUG SPRAY - Please do not bring bug spray or sprays of any kind. Apply spray at home.

CLOTHING - Lightweight summer clothing with bathing suit underneath for water activities. Some afternoons have a cool sea breeze or showers; dress accordingly.

HATS - Baseball caps, etc. are strongly recommended.

BATHROOMS - At at the beach areas.

CAMERAS - Please do not bring expensive cameras, Walkmans, or electronic games. Remember: we are working in a saltwater environment.

Special Note:
SWIMMING
- This is not a recreational camp, so we do not plan to take the campers swimming. However we do go collecting in the shallow (waist-deep) cove areas of the bay.
T-SHIRTS - It is easier for us to keep track of the campers if they all wear their Ocean Adventures t-shirts (or a white shirt) daily. It also looks good in our camper photos. Visit:

12:00-12:30 PM Lunch, Games
12:30-2:00 PM Lesson, Field Activity, Collecting Marine Life, Prepare to return home.

Daily Checklist
" Lunch and frozen water in a plastic soda bottle
" $1.50 to purchase a soda (Optional)
" Sneakers or hard-soled "water shoes" and sandals
" Sunscreen (applied at home) and hat
" Bathing suit and towel
" White "camper t-shirt"
" Medicines
" Emergency phone number (Check with the instructor on the first day, or bring the numbers on a 3x5 card.)
" Zip-lock bag for bringing home shells (usually the lunch bag will do)
" A big smile!
