Among them we found curious tiny orange spots that may be the start of lichen growth. (35x magnification)

There are abundant fossils on the beaches of Beechey's and Devon islands and other spots in the northern islands. Most common are coral reef specimens that are hundreds of millions of years old. Up on uplifted beaches (or terraces) are numerous relict shells.
