Birds of Midway | Colony | Threats | Behaviors | Banding | Night at the Colony | Black-footed Albatross

The 18,000 pairs of black-footed albatross that nest on Midway represent about 30% of the world's population. These birds tend to nest closer to the beach than the Laysan albatross. Below, an adult prepares to feed its youngster. Albatross only lay one egg.

An unusual sight, is a Laysan albatross feeding a black-footed juvenile.

The black-footed juveniles are not as curious as the Laysan, but they photograph well, nonetheless.
