Frigatebirds are the "career criminals" of the island. Although they are superb fliers and fishermen, with 90-inch wing spans, they are best known as "klepto-parasites," and chase other birds to steal their catch.
There are about 95 pairs of Great Frigatebirds at Midway Island. The parents may feed the youngsters for up to 18 months after they fledge, so they receive more care than most young seabirds.
