Former Brookdale Community College President Peter F. Burnham took thousands of dollars for his own personal interests instead of putting it toward improving Brookdale, the board of trustees announced last April, noting that a lawsuit against Burnham would be filed.

A year has passed since former Brookdale President Peter F. Burnham resigned amid allegations that he charged thousands of dollars in unauthorized expenses. To date, Burnham has not been charged with any crimes.

On Tuesday, Feb. 21 the Board of Trustees announced that Dr. Maureen Murphy will be the next president of Brookdale Community College effective July 1.
She will be taking the place of Dr. William M. Toms, who has been acting as Brookdale’s interim president since last March.

Brookdale president Peter F. Burnham, who was placed on administrative leave on March 3 due to an investigation into the spending habits of the president’s office, resigned as president last night, effective immediately, in a statement through his attorney to the Asbury Park Press.
